India vs England, 3rd Test: India beat England by 203 runs

India were just one wicket away from a famous win against England at the start of play on Wednesday, the fiftth day. The Kohli-led team needed 17 runs to wrap up the match when to everybody’s surprise, R Ashwin got rid of James Anderson, leading India to clinch victory against England by 203 runs.

The series stands at 2-1 now, still in favour of England but this victory has definitely spiced things up for the remaining two Tests. This is only the 7th Test win for India in England.

Jasprit Bumrah had on Tuesday claimed his second five-wicket haul in Tests when he dismissed Stuart Broad for 20 runs.

England were 311 for 9 at stumps on the fourth day after India had set them an improbable target of 521 runs.

An unbeaten 111-run partnership between all-rounder Ben Stokes (42*) and Jos Buttler (67*) frustrated the bowlers as India went wicket-less in the second session on day 4 of the third Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Resuming the session on 84 for four, both Buttler and Stokes played valiantly against the Indian pacers and Ravichandran Ashwin as they went to Tea with 173 for four on the board. With a very little help from the pitch and weather, Indian pacers struggled to swing the ball. Both the England batsmen avoided the ‘outside the off-stump’ balls and handled Ashwin with caution.

Jos Buttler during his courageous knock also notched up his 9th fifty in Test cricket. All-rounder Ben Stokes too went against his nature and displayed a brilliant defensive game, occasionally hitting odd boundaries. For India, it was hard work in the second session but Mohammed Shami started to get some reverse swing towards the end of the session.
