Indore resident, Amit Yadav (24) made a fake Facebook account of a woman by the name of Atharva and befriended Priya Rawat (17). When Yadav revealed his true identity to Priya, she broke all ties with him. The enraged techie then reached Priya’s flat on Tuesday and attacked the girl and her mother with a knife, leading to the girl’s death. He subsequently tried to kill himself by jumping off the second-storey flat but failed in the process.

This incident is yet another example of the dangers lurking in unhindered and unsupervised use of social media. According to Palasia police station in-charge Rajendra Soni, Priya succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital while her mother is still undergoing treatment.

Soni said, Amit kept up the façade for over a year and by the time he revealed his true identity, he was already in possession of Priya’s address and her mother’s mobile number. The accused messaged her on Monday saying he would be coming to meet her the next day. He turned up at the girl’s house and asked why she had stopped chatting with him.

Priya told him that as he had lied to her, she did not want to have any contact with him. Angered by the answer, Yadav stabbed her with a knife and also attacked her mother who came to help.

The SHO further said that Yadav has been admitted to a hospital and appears to be mentally unsound, before adding that further investigations were underway.
