Mercury reached 30 degrees in 16 Odisha districts by 8:30 am today, according to IMD data.
At 43.6° Celsius, Baripada topped Nuapada (43.5), Talcher (43.4), and Boudh (43.2).
According to the Meteorological Centre at Bhubaneswar, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Bolangir town recorded maximum temperatures of 43°C.

In different parts of Odisha, the IMD on Thursday issued a red warning for heatwave to severe heatwave conditions.
Over the next four days, maximum temperatures will rise by 2-4 degrees.
The heatwave will continue from April 26 to 29, according to Manorama Mohanty, director of the Meteorological Centre.
A heatwave has gripped parts of Jharkhand again, with temperatures exceeding 40° Celsius across most parts of the state.
Kolhan, Santhal, and North Chotanagpur divisions have been issued a heatwave alert until April 29.

In the next three days, the maximum temperature is likely to rise by two or three degrees Celsius due to an increase in the northwest to westerly surface winds, according to Ranchi Meteorological Centre in-charge Abhishek Anand.
According to him, approximately ten districts were affected by the heatwave on Thursday, and more are expected to be affected in the coming days.
In Gajapati, Ganjam, Balasore Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar Balangir, Nuapada and Kahahandi, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail.
The districts of Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Deogarh, FC Boudh, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Khordha, Nayagarh are very likely to suffer from heatwave conditions.
Forest fires will be minimized by taking all necessary precautions, according to the forest department.
