The Indian government has always taken a strict stance on the prohibition of pornographic websites in the country. Consequently, the majority of pornographic websites are blacklisted in India. However, there are numerous workarounds that the general public uses to access all of the restricted content. But what if we told you that visiting this type of website could result in warnings and a hefty punishment from the Indian government? As odd and fishy as it sounds, it is. Recently, the con artists have developed a new scheme. According to a report by The Lallantop, scammers impersonating the Indian government are duping users who view or access porn online. In this article, we will discuss the fraud in detail and explain how you can recognise it and protect yourself.

Pay a fine for online pornographic viewing?

With this scam, perpetrated under the guise of the Indian government, numerous users who access pornographic content online have been duped. This can be described as a new technique for stealing from all users by using dread and threats. The most disturbing aspect of this fraud is that users are not even targeted with a phoney link, OTP, or any other material. This time, users must pay to access pornographic websites on their mobile devices.

Regarding the same, as soon as you open the porn website, you will see a page with the URL india.gov.in/police that states “Government of India.” Due to the page’s title and URL, the majority of visitors are misled into believing that it is an official government warning. The page also displays a warning that the Indian government will penalise you heavily if you continue to access pornographic websites from your device.

As a user, you should bear in mind that you do not need to panic if you see this type of warning on your device. Instead, you must simply leave the page you were planning to visit. In these instances, hackers typically penetrate the traffic of pornographic websites. Once you fall victim to the scam, you are prompted to input your debit or credit card information. Verify that you do not input any of the information, as it will be sent to the scammers. In conclusion, we would like to state that what you see on your device is solely your responsibility and not that of any other individual, organisation, or government.
