In the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve come across many corona warriors but one such example of humanity can be seen from the side of the ISKCON temple. As the situation has become particularly difficult for migrant workers daily-wage earners and slum-dwellers during the lockdown as the sources of income have dried up. ISKCON has come up with its kitchen to provide food for the needy.
International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Delhi’s Dwarka is providing food to needy amid nationwide lockdown. The kitchen service started after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide lockdown amid coronavirus scare.
A senior functionary of ISKCON in conversation with Newsd, said that “About 3 lakh distressed people are availing of our kitchen every day. Of them, more than 50% are from Bihar and Jharkhand.”
It is estimated that the larger number of migrant workers stuck in Delhi are from these states. “We are even open to working in coordination with these state governments so that maximum relief can be extended to people. This can be done by way of something like a shared helpline number. The objective is that no one should sleep hungry.”
ISKCON with the help of the government has now managed to have helpline numbers for all these mentioned Delhi based areas where the migrant workers are stuck and they’ve been provided food on a daily basis.
