At the beginning, the feeling of pure anticipation was supposed to be the only thing that people would experience, but it quickly turned into frustration. The fans and the consumer advocates made a point that even though the concert’s base ticket price for Rio de Janeiro was around $144 USD, the final cost was going up considerably due to “service fees” that were added.
Reportedly, in some cases, the total prices were reaching over 27% more than the listed price which led to a lot of people complaining online about the pricing that they referred to as both opaque and unfair.
Official Complaint Filed
Cortez was the one who was most vocal about these issues, the one that stood-up for the consumers’ right to protect prices by stating that he would conceive of the matter as if he was actually doing it. The complaint was directed at the PROCON and the National Consumer Secretariat (SENACON), which are the two main federal agencies that are responsible for enforcing fair market practices under the Ministry of Justice, and for providing consumer protection.

Cortez drew attention to the huge disparity between the tickets’ nominal prices and what the consumers finally paid after the addition of the various fees. Though the precise goal of the complaint is to determining whether the ticketing practices contravene the consumer laws of Brazil, the episode highlights a wider discontent of concertgoers that is gradually growing: a decline in the clarity of how fees are computed and revealed.

Fans and Critics Reaction
These worries were reflected by the fans over social media. A few opinions claimed that the service fees should always be lower than the base price of the ticket, and a lot of people insisted on more detailed explanations of the particular charges. The opinions were as varied as, for instance, the idea of getting rid of manipulation of fees and asking for immediate government intervention in the markets.

Additionally, it was noted by some that although the VIP packages contain greater expenses, the fees related to the standard tickets were unreasonably high in relation to the service rendered, which in turn made people call for stricter consumer protections.
