Team India has recently created history by winning their first ever Test series in Australia. Indian bowlers especially Jasprit Bumrah was phenomenal throughout the series. On January 8, BCCI announced that Jasprit Bumrah has been rested and will be replaced by Mohammed Siraj for the three ODIs against Australia while Siddarth Kaul will join the team for the three T20Is in New Zealand.
The brilliant performance by Man of the series Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Agarwal and Rishabh Pant also supported Indian Team to dominate the Australians.
“Keeping in mind the work load of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia,” said the BCCI release.
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled 157.1 overs in the four-Test series against Australia. Bumrah bowled more overs than any other fast bowler in the four-Test series in Australia, featuring only behind Nathan Lyon’s 242.1 overs as the two finished as the joint-highest wicket-takers in the series.
Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami too bowled over 100-overs.
In 2018, across all formats in international cricket, the list for most overs bowled was also led by Lyon (636.3) and Bumrah (511.3), but the Indian fast bowler led the wicket charts by taking 78 wickets in the year.
Mohammed Siraj will replace Bumrah for the ODI series against Australia. Siraj picked up 7-wickets in his last Ranji Trophy game against Punjab and also showed good form in the three first-class games against New Zealand A in New Zealand.
Siddarth Kaul who is named in the Indian squad for the T20I series in New Zealand has picked up 10-wickets in his last two first-class games against Kerala and Hyderabad. Kaul also picked up 7-wickets in the 3 List A games against New Zealand which includes a 4-wicket haul in the final game of the 3-match series.
The 3 match ODI series between India and Australia will start on January 12, ending it on January 18 in Melbourne, after which team India will head to New Zealand for 5 ODIs starting from January 23 and 3 T20Is ending on February 10.
