Jawed Habib salon in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district was attacked and vandalised on Saturday by an angry mob over the use of a caricature of Hindu gods in one of his advertisements. Police said the mob was influenced by workers of the Hindu Jagran Manch.

They attacked the salon situated in Motinagar in the district neighboring the state capital. Some customers were trapped inside the saloon when the mob attacked the properties.  The activists of the Hindu group also warned the owner to wrap up his business or face consequences. After this, a police complaint was filed.

Concerned officials visited the salon and talked to some eyewitnesses.  Regional secretary of the Hindu Jagran Manch, Vimal Dwivedi said, sacrilege of Hindu gods would not be accepted at any cost. “We will not allow the salon to operate,” he said.

The ad that triggered controversy carried the caption ‘Gods too visit JH Salon.’ This led to a case being filed against the hairstylist in Hyderabad. Habib has already apologized saying a partner concern issued the ad in Kolkata without his knowledge.
