Jharkhand: Ban on black dresses at venue of PM's public meet, shoes allowed after outrage

Amid fear that some people may show black flag to the Prime Minister at his rally, police in Jharkhand’s Palamu banned entry of all black materials including black dresses to the venue of PM Narendra Modi’s public meeting scheduled for January 5.

“Anybody coming to the meeting with any black material will not be allowed to enter the public meeting venue,” Palamu Superintendent of Police Inderjit Mahata said Tuesday.

The order covers the use of shawls, trousers, shirts, coats, sweaters, mufflers, socks, ties, bags and shoes at the function. Sources said that after the SP’s order drew criticism, police have decided that black shoes would be allowed.

The move came in the wake of the para-teachers’ ongoing agitation across Jharkhand for over three months in support of their demands including regularisation of service. The ban is applied to both officials and the audience.
