Protests against the planned power plant of Adani Power in Godda district has entered its 5th day on Wednesday. Led by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) legislator Pradeep Yadav, the protest began as hundreds of villagers, who are likely to lose their land, have participated and marched in deadly summer.

People are protesting with the legislator under the banner of Jameen Bachao Sangrash Samittee. A video of tribals in Godda walking to the ‘anshan venue’ have also surfaced.

Recently, a public hearing on land acquisition was conducted by the Adani Power. The majority of the participants decided to give their lands for the project.  But, the JVM-P legislator is alleging that fake landowners were called to the hearing. Reportedly, he also joined the public hearing.

The police had to resort to lathicharge to control the protesters. Notably, an arrest warrant was also issued against Yadav last week.

“People are supporting the Satyagraha. Our President Babulal Marandi will also join the Satyagraha. We request the state government to stop land acquisition for the Adani Power,” said Yadav.

Last year, the Adani Power signed a MoU with the state government to establish a 1,600MW power plant in Santhal Pargana area of the state.
