Two infants, including a 6-month-old girl from a government-aided Sahyog Village shelter home in Jharkhand’s Khunti were reported dead on Sunday, which prompted authorities to initiate a medical and magisterial inquiry into the matter.

One of the deceased infants, identified as Palo Tuti, was reportedly relocated from the Ranchi shelter home following an investigation into an alleged illegal adoption scam at the Missionaries of Charity-run organisation where she was previously housed.

The other four-month-old baby’s identity is yet to be ascertained, as she was reportedly left by an unwed mother at Sahyog village.

“Both the babies were ill and we admitted them to a hospital couple of days back. But, they could not survive and died on Sunday. Hospital authorities said that they died due to prolonged illness,” told Khunti deputy development commissioner CK Mandal.

The Sahyog Village management allege that they have licence to keep 10 children, but the CWC brought in 12 more children. The members associated with Sahyog group held the CWC responsible for the deaths.

A three-member magisterial team has been set up by the administration to investigate into the exact cause of death.
