Jio AirFiber will reportedly be less expensive than competitive offerings.
According to the ET Telcom report, Jio AirFiber could launch for retail customers at a 20% discount to market rates. Given that Jio AirFiber is only the second FWA service provider after Airtel Xstream AirFiber, it is likely that Jio AirFiber will be more affordable. This is consistent with Jio’s strategy to disrupt the market. However, the report does not disclose the pricing of the forthcoming service; we should learn this information next week.
Additionally, the ET Telecom report discloses that the company has distributed test devices to select users, including its own employees. Before the AGM 2023 release, the telco is evaluating the device in a residential environment.
According to sources close to the development, the company has initiated consumer trials in areas where its 5G deployment is complete and stable. According to the official Jio True 5G website, the telecommunications company has deployed 5G in more than 6,258 cities and villages across 36 states and union territories.
Airtel introduced its XStream AirFiber service in only two cities, Mumbai and Delhi. To purchase the 5G FWA device and the Rs 4,435 six-month plan, interested Xstream AirFiber consumers must pay just under Rs 7,000, including a refundable security deposit of Rs 2,500. This option, which costs Rs 799 per month, is presently unavailable to Airtel FWA customers.
As with its Jio Fibre and postpaid Plus plans, Jio is likely to price the FWA device at a discount or provide a free trial for a limited time. The Mukesh Ambani-led telecommunications company may also attempt to attract customers by not imposing a 6-month contract term, as Airtel does.
