Kahalgaon Assembly Constituency 2025:Kahalgaon is a non-reserved (General category) assembly constituency in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. It comprises the Community Development (CD) Blocks of Goradih & Sonhoula; the Nagar Panchayat of Kahalgaon; and a set of Gram Panchayats such as Parashathdih (Shankarpur Khawas), Kodwar, Janidih, Pakkisarai, Dhanora, Maishamunda, Ekchari, Bholsar, Ogree, Shyampur, etc.

Voters and Local Issues

In terms of voters, Kahalgaon had about 331,391 electors in the 2020 Assembly poll. The social composition includes Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Muslims, and various Other Backward Classes (OBCs), along with upper caste communities. The constituency is predominantly rural, with only a small percentage classified as urban due to the Nagar Panchayat in Kahalgaon.

Local issues often cited by voters include infrastructure (roads, embankments, flood protection), health facilities, quality of schools, power supply, and job opportunities for youth. Also relevant are schemes and transfers (welfare), responsiveness of local administration, and promises made in past elections. The performance of the NTPC township in Kahalgaon is also a factor in local economic dynamics.

Kahalgaon Assembly Constituency 2025: Recent Political History

Historically, Kahalgaon has been a seat with substantial competition among parties like the Indian National Congress (INC), Janata Dal / Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], and in recent times the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Until 2020, Congress had a relatively strong hold, winning multiple terms. Sadanand Singh (INC) was MLA in 2010 and 2015. In 2020 there was a shift: Pawan Kumar Yadav of BJP won the seat with a decisive margin, defeating the Congress candidate by over 42,000 votes.

Election Numbers (2010–2020)

Over the last three Assembly elections (2010, 2015, 2020), Kahalgaon showed both continuity and change:

2010: Voter turnout was lower, Congress, through Sadanand Singh, won with ~44,936 votes, defeating the JD(U) runner-up who got ~36,001 votes.

2015: Slight increase in turnout; again Congress won, Sadanand Singh secured ~64,981 votes, with the LJP candidate as runner-up. Margin grew (some tens of thousands).

2020: A clear swing to BJP — Pawan Kumar Yadav got ~115,538 votes (~56.23% vote share), defeating the INC candidate (Shubhanand Mukesh) who got ~72,645 votes. Margin ≈ 42,893 votes. Turnout was ~62% of electors.

Thus the trend indicates rising voter turnout and shifting political loyalty: from Congress dominance to a BJP breakthrough in 2020.
