Women in the Kanpur city stood for their rights by protesting against female foeticide as well as demanded their rights to perform Shraddh ritual.

On Sunday September 30, a special programme was organised by Yug Dadichi Deh Daan Abhiyaan where women in large number at Sarsiyya ghat in Kanpur performed ‘shraddh’ ritual for the girl children killed in the womb. Not just the female foeticide, but the group performed ‘pind-daan’ freedom fighters and soldiers who laid down their lives for the country.

As quoted by national weekly Times of India, the event organiser Manoj Sengar said that the purpose of conducting such a programme was to give back women their right to conduct ‘Shraddh rituals’. In the Vedic times women had all rights to perform religious rituals but with the passage of time these rights passed on to males and women were denied of all the rights,” he said.

Among women who performed ‘tarpan’ were BJP district president Anita Gupta, Colonel Prabha Awasthi, Manisha Maheshwari, Dr Seema, Srivastava, Dr Nisha Gandhi, Pushpalata Mishra, Dr Sneh Sudha, Madhavi Sengar among others.
