With Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, according to maestro composer Pritam, director Karan Johar wanted to revisit classic romance. Pritam composed the entire album for RRKPK.
At Spotify’s Music Concert, Pritam, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, and Sonu Nigam promoted the new song from their film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
During his interview with Newshelpline, we asked Pritam about the inspiration and brief for the film’s soundtrack, to which he responded, “The brief was simple: Karan Johar wanted to revisit ancient Indian classical music. His assignment was LP’s 1990s romantic genre. The composition of the songs was altered. Every composition consists of two ‘antara’ (paragraphs), one of which is omitted, and is between five and six minutes long. The entire film is filled with nostalgia and emotion; everyone is chanting old melodies, and we’ve used them as background music.”
Pritam and Sonu Nigam have collaborated on the film’s fourth tune, which will be released shortly.
When queried about the fourth song, Pritam shared an intriguing anecdote, saying, “Just two or three days prior to this event, Sonu Nigam and I composed the song, but I had the song for a while. But when it became apparent that Sonu Nigam would be singing it, I decided to alter the song and record a new one with him. When composing a song with Sonu, there is little pressure.”
“I dragged the process out for two to three months, until it was time to release the song, and when I saw all the songs in succession, it worked superbly with the film, and only then did I call Sonu Nigam, who was on vacation in Mauritius,” Pritam explained.
The family drama film is directed by filmmaker Karan Johar, stars veteran actors Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, and is scheduled for release on the 28th of July, 2023.
