Protest For Madiga Reservation: Senior BJP leaders in Karnataka, along with Madiga community organizations, have declared a statewide protest on August 1. This decision was taken to push implementation of interior reservation within Scheduled Castes. Former Union Minister A. Narayanaswamy claims that protests will be conducted in front of Deputy Commissioners’ offices across all areas to call for Cabinet action and an official Assembly resolution by August 10.
Karnataka BJP Leaders To Protest
August 1 marks one year since the Supreme Court’s ruling by Justice D.Y. Chandrachud approved sub-categorisation among SCs, including the Madigas. BJP leaders warn that if the Karnataka cabinet does not take action, they will raise a statewide bandh and non-cooperation movement. Narayanaswamy added plans for a mass meeting with 4,000–5,000 people to decide next steps over this matter.
Karnataka’s government has held up the process despite constitutional backing. A special commission led by Justice Nagamohan Das, set up months ago, has not received caste-wise data from 1976 onward covering panchayat representation, government jobs, and cooperative sector positions. BJP MP Govind Karjol also demanded the move take effect by August 16, warning of mounting agitation if ignored.

Protest For Madiga Reservation
Leaders from the Madiga point out that courts have long upheld internal SC quotas in states like Telangana (1999) and Andhra Pradesh. Karnataka, meanwhile, keeps delaying execution not withstanding repeated verbal assurances from authorities including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Karjol accused the Congress-run administration of vote-bank politics and claimed repeated neglect in giving the commission needed data .
As August’s deadline approaches, BJP leaders have warned of escalating measures including bandhs, non-cooperation, and refusal to let governmental functioning in affected areas.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Govind Karjol also demanded that the state government implement internal reservation from August 16. “This is a betrayal of Dalits. In 2023, the Congress promised this in its manifesto and during its first Cabinet meeting.
But instead of delivering, they set up committees and keep extending deadlines,” Karjol alleged, adding that the Nagamohan Das Commission’s requests for crucial information went unanswered.
“If the government fails to act by August 16, it will be ‘implement or face mass agitation’. We will not let them bury this issue,” Karjol warned.
BJP and Madiga groups’ protest campaign highlights deep-seated divisions within SC reservation policies in Karnataka. Rising grassroots pressure presents the government with a watershed decision: either using sub-quotas with political risk or managing growing societal unrest. August 1 will be a turning point for caste-based justice in the state.
