Congress election in charge of Bellary by-polls DK Shivakumar kick-started the by-poll election campaign along with the Congress candidate VS Ugrappa after a massive rally and road show in the Bellary town.

VS Ugrappa filed his nomination papers for the Ballari Lok Sabha by-poll after offering his prayers at Kankadurga Temple. He was accompanied with DK Shivakumar and led a massive roadshow in course of going to file his nomination paper.

Ballari by-polls has become a prestige issue for Bhartiya Janata Party and the Congress. It has sparked a proxy war between the DKS and the BJP candidate B Sriramulu in the upcoming by-polls of Ballari Lok Sabha seat.

Bellary is one of the reserved constituencies for Schedule Tribes of Karnataka under Bhartiya Janata Party control since 2004 when G Karunakara Reddy won the seat for the first time and defeated Congress candidate KC Kondaiah. BJP has never lost the election since then and also had the full support of local mining king ‘Reddy brothers’.

By-polls to be held in 3 Lok Sabha, 2 Assembly seats in Karnataka

Ballari seat has always been of high prestige and Congress is eying on DK’s magic to continue in order to gain the total control of the area.
