Karnataka: Wedding called off after bridegroom’ family takes objection over bride’s sari

In a rare yet bizarre incident, a wedding was called off allegedly after the bridegroom’s parents took objection to the poor quality of the sari to be worn by the bride during the ceremony here at Bidarakere village of Hassan taluk.

According to media reports, Following the direction of his parents, the bridegroom BN Raghukumar absconded a day before the marriage.

The reports said that Raghukumar’s parents were unhappy over the quality of the saree selected for the bride BR Sangeeta and had even asked her parents to get it changed. However on Wednesday, a day before the marriage ceremony, they called off the wedding following which Raghukumar absconded.

Raghukumar and Sangeeta were acquainted with each other for over a year and decided to tie the knot. Their parents had given their consent for the marriage.

The reports added that Sangeeta’s parents have lodged a complaint with the women’s police station in Hassan against Raghukumar.

This is not the first time a bizarre case has been reported, earlier in Gujarat a wedding was called off when the groom’s father elopes with bride’s mother.
