Remember Sushil Kumar, The KBC 2011 Winner? Sushil Kumar from Motihari became the winner of Kaun Banega Crorepati season – V in 2011 is again ready to make his state feel proud as he is nominated with a responsibility to aware common man for more participation in upcoming general elections.
An order from State Chief Electoral Office was released which said- ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati winner Shri Sushil Kumar has been selected for the District sweep icon by the State Level Icon Committee for the Lok Sabha elections – 2019.’
This decision of Election Commission is taken keeping upcoming Lok Sabha elections in consideration. As ‘Sweep Icon’ Sushil will be working in collaboration with the State Election Commission to increase awareness of society on elections with an aim to increase voting turnout. Sushil Kumar will be having the responsibility of district East Champaran. As a matter of fact, in 2014 elections, on 40 seats, Bihar witnessed a total turnout of 56.28%.
It is to inform that 20 districts of Bihar namely- West Champaran & East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamadih, Kishanganj, Kathihar, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Patna, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Arwal and Aurangabad have been provided with ‘District sweep icon’.
While talking to Newsd, Sushil Kumar detailed on the decision of the Election Commission and said, “Election Commission has a very clear intention of raising the voter turnout by increasing participation of the electorate. To do this one known face from each district has been selected to interact with the electorate on the significance of vote to raise awareness among them. On insistence and advice from a renowned person over voting participation, one may expect common man’s involvement in large number.”
According to the State Election Commission notice, the responsibility of District Sweep Icon is to be discharged between 27th December 2018 to 31st May 2019. In past, Auahil Kumar was also appointed as the Brand Ambassador of MNREGA by Government of India.
