Kerala boy becomes the youngest Indian father at 12

A school boy from Ernakulam in Kerala has fathered a child at his age of 12, becoming the youngest Indian father.

The 16-year-old mother gave birth to a baby girl a few months ago at a hospital in Ernakulam and Genetic profiling of both the baby and the father was carried out earlier this week to confirm the paternity of the child, The Hindu reported.

The identity of the minor parents and baby are being withheld in accordance with the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Dr. P.K. Jabbar, Professor and Head of the Endocrinology Department of the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, told The Hindu that the boy could have a medical condition called “precocious puberty,” in which puberty occurring at an unusually early age.

In the “absence of identical twins, it was found that the alleged father was the biological father of the child” whose blood samples were examined, sources were quoted by The Hindu as saying.

Experts compared the DNA profiles generated from the blood samples of the father and the baby to affirm the paternity. The baby was just 18 days old at the time of the scientific analysis.

Kerala Police had registered a case against the boy under POSCO act.
