Kerala: Liquor, meat trafficking freely in Kannur central jail

It seems that some VIP prisoners are camping in the rooms of some officials.

Recently it was found that big bags of liquor and meat easily flow into Kannur central jail. While few officials remain helpless, others help the inmates in violating rules in the prison.

A packet of liquor and meat was found near the clinic on the jail premises on Sunday. It is reported that the packet was found near the block where CPM workers were lodged. The in mates seek the help of their friends outside to entrust quotation gangs to bring necessary things.

Though liquor and meat were taken to the jail for the inmates, the officials did not informed the matter to senior police officers. While the gang which took the packet ran away from the spot after getting notices by one of the jail employees, the jail staff buried the fresh meat and bakery items on the premises itself.

As reported by Mathrubhumi News, with norms being violated, the jail is under the threat of complete anarchy. Apart from liquor trafficking into the jail, the criminals have destroyed several CCTV cameras installed in the jail. Cables were cut by using modern equipment. Though the officials made an attempt to re-install CCTV cameras it went in vain.

Most of the officials are afraid to report to higher officials even if they find prisoners using mobile phones, reports media house, adding that a convict in a political murder case, returned after parole with a large bag. But the jail officials ignored it. It is alleged that some officials are ruling the jail isolating the jail superintendent.

It is alleged that the VIP prisoners are camping in the rooms of some officials.
