Haryana legislator Kiran Choudhry has tendered her resignation from the Vidhan Sabha, with strong indications that she will be run in the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypolls by the BJP. This decision comes nearly two months after she switched from the Congress party.
In a call with PTI on Tuesday, Choudhry confirmed her resignation. The former Haryana minister and Tosham MLA joined the BJP in June, along with her daughter, Shruti, and their supporters.
The Rajya Sabha elections for 12 vacant seats in nine states are scheduled for September 3. Choudhry’s potential candidacy follows Deepender Singh Hooda’s election to the Lok Sabha from Rohtak, leaving a lone Rajya Sabha seat in Haryana. The BJP’s superior numbers in the assembly almost guarantee Choudhry’s victory.
