Bikshal Kongari, a Congress candidate, prevailed victory in the Kolebira(Jharkhand) bypolls with a margin of more than 9 thousand votes.

By-poll elections in Kolebira, Jharkhand was called for after the sitting MLA, Enos Ekka of the Jharkhand Party was convicted to life imprisonment in a case of kidnapping and murder.

The elections were announced just after the recent Assembly elections in the five states. In those elections, Congress party came out as the single largest party. In Chhattisgarh Congress registered a thumping victory, while in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan the party came out as the single largest party.

The polling in the assemblies of Jasdan and Kolebira happened on 20th December 2018 and the result counting took place on 23rd December. In the Jasdan assembly constituency, Kunvarji Bavalia, a BJP candidate claimed victory by almost 20 thousand votes(19985).

In Kolebira, Congress continued the lead which the party gained during the initial round and won the seat with around 10 thousand votes.

In the Kolebira bypolls, Congress was supported by all the opposition party barring the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the party with the second most number of seats in the state. Apparently, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and RJD were backing the candidate from the Jharkhand Party, Menon Ekka, wife of Enos Ekka.

In the elections of Kolebira, a 62.89 per cent voter turnout was registered. The constituency has around 2.8 lac voters and as many as 270 polling booths were put in place for the elections.
