On Wednesday, Kolkata Police recovered the charred body of a man from his flat in Bhawanipore area on Ashutosh Mukherjee Road on Wednesday. The man is named Madan Prasad Gupta. However, it is unclear why the person set himself on fire. It is also unclear if it was an accident or a form of suicide, said the police.
As per sources, on the afternoon of the incident at around 2:50 pm, the fire broke out on the top floor of the three-storey building in south Kolkata area.
“No suicide note has been found. We are investigating the matter,” said a police official.
