People, especially those living in rural areas, have been urged by the disaster management agency not to enter agricultural fields or stand under trees, electric poles, or temporary clay dwellings when it is raining. In addition, they have warned residents of urban areas to remain away from windows during the rain, not touch electrical appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, and avoid going to the rooftops of buildings. Follow these guidelines to avoid being struck by lightning:

If you are outside and hear thunder or see lightning, immediately seek refuge in a substantial building or a vehicle with a fully enclosed metal roof. Open structures, outbuildings, picnic shelters, and tents do not offer sufficient protection.

Stay indoors: During a thunderstorm, remain inside a robust structure. As lightning can propagate through wires and pipes, avoiding using corded phones, electrical appliances, and plumbing fixtures during a storm is advised.

Stay away from windows and doors: During a thunderstorm, avoid standing near windows, doors, or patios. Through the metal frames and conductive surfaces, lightning can propagate.

If you are outside during a storm, avoid open fields, hilltops, elevated areas, and isolated tall objects such as trees, poles, and structures. You should seek shelter in a low-lying area if possible.
