Hollywood release Long Shot is based on a free-spirited journalist Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) meets his childhood crush and babysitter Charlotte Fields who is now one of the most influential people in the world.
She’s the secretary of state who is ambitious intelligent and a perfect combination of beauty with brains while Fred is a rule-breaking and free-spirited journalist who believes in defying big corporations and the government. When Fred learns that the newspaper he works in is bought by a media mogul he chooses to quit. Fred and Charlotte meet at a party and realizes that they know each other since childhood.
Without knowing anything common, she hires him as her new speech writer. During their time of working together, they discover their feelings for each other but the dismaying fact is that Charlotte is ambitious for her work.
Although the film is Seth Rogen’s forte as he is known for playing role in the oddball romantic comedy, the interesting thing is how Charlize Theron proves herself time and again that she can do any genre. She can easily play a calm and composed woman and a carefree party girl at the same time.
The best part is how both the actors work together with each other strengths resulting in an effective comedic pairing.
Apart from them, they are helped by a superb star cast in small yet essential roles. There are supporting characters who make the chemistry between the couple more promising.
The film also addresses some issues like gender-biased scrutiny and criticism faced by women in power and why they need to work harder than their male counterparts.
Overall the movie is a crowd pleaser and manages to successfully place its heart in the right direction. For the rom-com lovers, the movie is a must watch.
