Madhya Pradesh: Youth drowns in canal while taking selfie, another injured

In a selfie mishap, young man drowned in a deep canal in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. One among the two has been rescued. According to the reports, a group of friends were celebrating a birthday near the canal.

The group somehow rescued one of them who drowned in the canal. The deceased has been identified as Shivam, who was a resident of Sadar.

The birthday of Shivam’s companion, whose party had about five companions went to the canal near Barha village. Shivam was taking selfies during the party only after her leg slipped, his friend tried to save, but Shivam had drowned deep into the water.

After the accident was reported, the team of Barela police station and home guards arrived. However, Shivam could not be traced.

A similar selfie-mishap was avoided early in July in Madhya Pradesh. Police rescued two girls stuck in the middle of the Pench river in Chhindwara district. The video of the incident showed the two girls standing in the middle of the gushing river. The girls had gone to the middle of the river for a selfie when the water suddenly level rose and trapped them. Local police and people in the area successfully rescued the two girls using ropes.
