Nashik: The death toll among farmers due to debt has risen as three farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra’s Malegaon on Friday. The three farmers were allegedly debt-ridden and resorted to suicide as their last resort after being caught in the endless abyss of debt. Among the three, two allegedly consumed poison while the third, hanged himself to death in an attempt to escape from debt.

The deaths of all the three farmers have been recorded as accidental deaths by the revenue officials.

Haunted by the constantly increasing amount of debt and crop failures, a large number of farmers in Maharashtra have committed suicide. Maharashtra farmers have been battling issues relating to crop failures and price falls without any significant help from the government and the officials.

A compensation worth Rs 200 per quintal to onion growers was announced by the Maharashtra government.

Onion farmers were supposed to be provided with the aforementioned compensation between November 1 and December 15 but a large number of farmers have still not received the same. Not only this, on talking to the farmers, Mirror Now also discovered that there might soon be an agitation among the farmers in relation to their problems.
