Challenge BJP to cross even 200 seats; won't allow CAA in Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has officially requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to postpone the rollout of three significant criminal laws scheduled for July 1.

In a detailed letter to the prime minister, Banerjee highlighted that a postponement would allow ample time for a renewed Parliamentary review of these crucial laws.

The proposed laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Act—are set to replace archaic colonial-era laws including the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872. These reforms are aimed at providing speedy justice and strengthening the judicial system.
