BJP spreading rumours about Bengal violence: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has reportedly gone ‘missing’ after he was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Rose Valley and Saradha ponzi scams. Responding to the reports, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday she was “sorry” that Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar was not present at a meeting with the Election Commission of India on Thursday.

However, on Saturday, Mamata refused the reports of the Police chief being missing and called it a political game played by Bharatiya Janata Party.

Taking it to her official Twitter account, Mamata in a series of tweets, said:

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had sought an explanation from the state government over the absence of Kumar at a meeting in Kolkata on Thursday, where the poll panel discussed election preparations with senior officials.

Kumar’s last public appearance was on Thursday when he attended the inauguration of the International Kolkata Book Fair where Banerjee was also present.

Kumar is a 1989 batch-IPS officer of the West Bengal cadre and is considered close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
