As Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told the nation that currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 will be scrapped, effective from midnight, people, despite facing hurdles supported the move.
Even political leaders of various parties came in support of Modi government’s crackdown on black money, except Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma and congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.
Calling it ‘draconian’ move Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked, “While I’m strongly against black money, corruption, deeply concerned about common people, small traders. How they will buy essentials tomorrow?”
She took it to twitter to express his rage against the decision saying, “This is a financial chaos and disaster let loose on the common people of India.”
“The PM could not get back the promised black money from abroad from the rich so a drama to divert his failure. I want to know from PM how my poorest brothers sisters, who’ve received their week’s hard earned wage in one 500 re note will buy ata,chal?” she asked.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma termed Modi’s surgical strike on black money as an ‘insensitive’ move.
“What we do and how we do things are very important. It may be for the larger good, but the way they are doing things shows their bankruptcy of ideas in implementing this decision,” Sangma said.
