Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday asked his Ministers to work for public welfare, pointing out that the state was able to meet less than 40 per cent of the drinking water needs of the people.

He was speaking at the Bharatiya Janata Party office here to celebrate the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which is celebrated as Good Governance Day throughout the country.

“We joined politics for public welfare and not personal gains. We must emulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi to work for the welfare of the people,” he said.

As for the discordant notes over the signing of framework agreement between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah), the Chief Minister said BJP leaders were helping civil society organisation leaders from Manipur who were camping in Delhi to meet the central leaders on the issue.

“The central leaders have repeatedly made it clear that the agreement will not compromise the territories of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur and all stakeholders will be consulted before inking the final agreement.”
