Maximum EV Stimulus Payment: How do I get the full $7,500 EV tax credit?
To qualify for the federal tax credit for purchasing a new plug-in electric vehicle (EV) or fuel cell electric vehicle (FCV) under Internal Revenue Code Section 30D, you need to:
- Don’t resell it; buy it for yourself
- Mostly used in the U.S.
- AGI (adjusted gross income) cannot exceed:
- For married couples filing jointly or surviving spouses, $300,000
- Heads of households get $225,000
- All other filers get $150,000
If the year before or the year you got the car is less, you can use this changed AGI from that year. If your adjusted AGI is less than the line in one of the two years, you can get the credit.
If you don’t move the credit, your tax return won’t give it back to you. That is, you can’t get more tax credit than you owe. You can’t use any extra points in any other tax year.
