The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Tuesday decided that the medical aspirants will now be permitted to attempt National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) only three times.

According to a Times of India, the decision has been taken to discourage thousands of students who keep trying their luck at the examination.

The UGC has also fixed the maximum age for general category candidates at 25 years. The age bar for reserved candidates will be 30 years. The minimum age to appear for NEET is 17 years.

Education experts quoted by TOI said that the cap on age and attempts will force candidates to focus on the field where their capability and passion lie.

Earlier, there was neither an age bar to take NEET, nor has there been a limit on the number of attempts for appearing in the entrance exam.
