The villagers in Bihar attacked police and healthcare teams who were out to spread awareness about coronavirus lockdown that has been extended till May 3 and was going to screen an outsider for coronavirus at different districts in the past few days.
At Jagapakad village under Harsidhi police station in East Champaran district, at least nine officials were injured in an attack by a group of villagers on Wednesday.
The officials, including local policemen, the Block Development Officer (BDO) and members of a medical team had gone there to enforce lockdown as villagers had gathered at a place over non-distribution of ration from Public Distribution System (PDS) shops.
It is reportedly said that there was a 15-minute clash between the villagers and policemen in which BDO Sunil Kumar and three policemen were injured and their vehicle was damaged.
The SDO said that they received complaints that people were not following the lockdown and the guidelines in the village, therefore, a team of health care and police went there to guide them but the villagers started to attack them.
