Meghalaya Strawberry Festival: Meghalaya is getting ready once again to turn the countryside red with the second edition of the much-loved Strawberry Festival. Meghalayan Age Limited (MAL) is organising the event with help from the Departments of Tourism and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. The festival will happen on May 2 and 3 this year.

The Strawberry Festival is not just about enjoying sweet strawberries. It has also become an important event to show the rich culture, beautiful farming areas, and rural development of the state. This year, the festival will happen in three beautiful places Sohliya in Ri Bhoi District, Syntung in East Khasi Hills District, and Darechikgre in West Garo Hills District.

Visitors who come to the festival will get to see many fun activities like strawberry picking, cooking shows, workshops on making local drinks, live music, tasty food, fun games for children, and lots more.

The first Strawberry Festival was held last year on April 12 and 13, 2024. It became very popular across the country because of the fun experiences it offered. People loved picking fresh strawberries straight from the farms, learning how to make jam in workshops, and trying many yummy strawberry products like sweet wines, tasty jams, and cool ice creams.

In 2024, Meghalaya produced around 1,220 metric tonnes of strawberries. This was even more than the 1,196 metric tonnes they grew in 2023. The government helped farmers by giving them strawberry plants, which made it possible to grow more fruit.

The Strawberry Festival also helps the people of Meghalaya a lot. It gives a big platform for local farmers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and small business owners to earn money and show their work. The event is a great way to support sustainable farming and boost tourism in rural areas.
