In 1899 today, in the northern part of Spain, a club which would later become the most famous one in the world, Barcelona came into existence. Players from the nearby nations of England and Switzerland came together to form the football club.

1. Hans-Max Gamper, a Swiss-German created the Football Club. Hans had earlier co-founded FC Zurich.
2. The motto of the Football club is “Més que un club” which translates to “More than a club“.
3. The club, unlike many, is purely owned and operated by its supporters.
4. The official anthem of the club is “Cant del Barça”. It was written by Jauma Picas and Josep Maria Espinàs. The anthem was commissioned to celebrate the club’s Platinum Jubilee in 1974.
5. The club has won a record 11 Ballon d’Or awards, 5 of which were won by the club icon Lionel Messi.
6. In 2015, Barca became the first European club ever to win the continental treble twice!
