Mike Pence to head Trump transition team

After his surprising victory, US president-elect Donald Trump elevated vice president-elect Mike Pence to head the operation of transition team.

The unexpected move diluted the role of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who had been running the Republican’s transition plan for months.

Notable Trump deputies Christie, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, retired Lt. Gen Michael Flynn, former New York city Mayor Rudi Guiliani and Senator Jeff Sessions will serve as vice chairs of the team, Trump announced Friday.

Trump was also nearing to the decision on who would become his White House chief of staff.

According to a Washington Street Journal report, Trump is likely to choose between the campaign’s chief executive Stephen Bannon and Republican National Committee chairman Reince Preibus.

Donald Trump said the newly organized Transition team would “build on the initial work done” by Christie’s team.

The transition team will direct the activities of dozens of corporate consultants, lobbyists and other specialists who will be responsible for recommending candidates for Federal government’s agency jobs, The New York Times reported.

Mike Pence, a strong critic of Obama Care and Immigration policy, stubbornly defended Trump during his destructive campaign.
