The Ministry of Home Affairs website was hacked today, prompting authorities to temporarily block it, an official said.

National Informatics Centre immediately blocked the website after noticing the hack.

Meanwhile, Computer emergency response teams are looking into the incident.

Further details are awaited.

The website could still not be accessed. Viewers are greeted with the standard “This site can’t be reached” message on Google Chrome browsers.

In January, website of the National Security Guard was hacked by suspected Pakistan-affiliated operatives. Anti-India content and message against Prime Minister were posted on it.

According to a report by Home Ministry to Lok Sabha, more than 700 websites of various central and state government departments were hacked in the past four years and a total of 8,348 persons were arrested for their involvement in cyber crimes.
