More Covid recoveries than new cases in Telangana

Hyderabad, Sep 9 (IANS) The number of recoveries from Covid-19 in Telangana during the last 24 hours surpassed the number of new positive cases.

Health officials said 2,485 people were discharged from hospitals and home isolation, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,15,072.

The state recovery of 77.9 per cent is now slightly higher than the national average of 77.76 per cent.

The state added 2,479 new cases during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 1,47,642. Of them 1,01,873 (69 per cent) are asymptomatic and 45,769 (31 per cent) symptomatic.

The virus claimed 10 more lives, pushing the death toll to 916. The fatality rate in the state remained at 0.62 per cent against the national average of 1.69 per cent. Out of the total fatalities, 53.87 per cent had comorbidities.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 31,654 including 24,741 in home/institutional isolation.

According to a media bulletin issued from the office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, 62,649 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours. This includes 28,192 primary contacts and 8,771 secondary contacts. Reports of 2,430 samples are awaited.

With this the state has so far conducted 18,90,554 tests. The samples tested per million population mounted to 50,922. Officials say this is much higher than the daily testing target of 5,600 per day as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) benchmark of 140 per million per day.

A total of 17 government and 38 private laboratories are conducting these tests while the state has 1,076 rapid antigen test centres.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) saw 322 of the new cases. State capital’s neighbouring districts Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri reported 188 and 183 cases respectively. Sangareddy, another district bordering the state capital, recorded 64 cases.

Outside Hyderabad and surrounding districts, Warangal Urban recorded the highest single-day jump of 124. Karimnagar saw 120, Nalgonda 108, Nizamabad 101, Suryapet 96, Khammam and Kamareddy 94 each.

Age wise Covid positive details show that 65.3 per cent of those tested positive were in the age group of 21-50 years. Officials said that 24.71 per cent are above 51 years of age. About 10 per cent were aged below 20 years.

Officials said 64.41 per cent of those tested positive were male, while the remaining 35.59 per cent were female.

According to the media bulletin, out of 20,396 beds under government, 17,737 beds are vacant including 1,601 ICU beds.

A total of 196 private hospitals treating Covid patients have 10,314 beds, out of which 6,060 are vacant.
