The Rajya Sabha witnessed huge commotion over the government giving its consent to Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath’s proposal to rename ‘Mughalsarai’ railway station to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya station on Friday.

Noted Jan Sangh leader, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was found dead in mysterious situation near Mughalsarai station in February, 1968. The government has approved and sent Yogi Adityanath’s proposal to the railway ministry.

Samajwadi Party members shouted slogans against government for giving green signal for the renaming of Mughalsarai station. Apart from them, Bahujan Samaj Party members also registered their objection on the matter. SP MP, Naresh Agarwal demanded that the House should systematically discuss on the subject before a no objection certificate is given.

Mughalsarai is one of the oldest railway junctions in Uttar Pradesh. Chief Minister, Adityanath had proposed renaming of the station in June. As maintained by the centre’s guideline, it is mandatory for a state to get an NOC from the home ministry for renaming railway stations, villages, towns and cities.
