Bharatiya Janata Party-led Yogi Adityanath government had requested the District Administration to withdraw 113 cases related to riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts. In a reaction to this, the District Administration has clearly refused from withdrawing the cases of 2013 riots. The request for the withdrawal of 131 riot-related cases was made in March this year by Yogi Adityanath government.

“Under the constitutional process, anyone can apply for a rollback of cases. This practice is being continued by this government and was used by the previous government as well. After a thorough investigation on 13 points by the police, we have recommended to the government that the withdrawal of cases will not be advisable on an administrative level,” said Rajiv Sharma District Magistrate Muzaffarnagar.

According to reports, former Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, along with BJP MLA Sangeet Som, former leader Naresh Tikait and few other leaders to discuss over the issue related to riots.

The Muzaffarnagar riots had taken place during the Akhilesh Yadav tenure in Uttar Pradesh. It was devastating and left more than 40,000 people homeless. A total of 502 cases were registered in connection with riots and 6,867 people have been accused so far.
