The chairman of the underground Nagaland rebel group NSCN (K), SS Khaplang, 77, a rebel leader for half a century, took his last breath on Friday. He died at the general headquarters of the group in Taga due to prolonged illness.

He was also the President of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN), which is the parallel government run by the group in Nagaland and in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar.

Sources told NDTV that he died after suffering a diabetic stroke around 7:30 pm on Friday.

Khaplang’s formed rebel groups carried out several attacks in past years on Security forces in Northeast. He formed a United platform of Northeast rebel groups like United National Liberation Front of Western South Asia (UNLFWSA).

According to the sources, his Deputy in NSCN (K), Khango Konyak, will replace him as the new Chairman.
Khaplang, has a huge influence over the Myanmarese authorities and also has a strong connect with South Asia, especially China. His death is a major blow to the Northeast rebel groups.
