Hundreds of youths from the Karbi community in Assam, representing 24 organisation, staged an unprecedented naked protest alleging lack of response to their demands for electoral reforms.
The naked protesters took out a huge procession across the district headquarter in Diphu town.
“For the last several years we have been demanding an updated voter list. The current list has names of thousands of outsiders and non-tribal people who have been enjoying the rights and privileges meant for us. Are not we left naked?,” Assam Times quoted a protester as saying.
The protesters alleged that the government and many leaders of different political parties have failed to respond their demand since 1950.
The 24 organisations are demanding the making of Act and Rules for the preparation of correct Voters Lists and the conduct of elections of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
