In yet another set back for the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), its six-time legislator Dilip Sopal on Tuesday handed over his resignation to Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Bagde. As per the reports, Sopal, NCP MLA from Barshi constituency in Solapur district, is set to join the Shiv Sena on Wednesday.

“I have resigned from the party. I will join the Shiv Sena soon. I am doing what people from my constituency want me to do,” Sopal said, as quoted by leading daily HT.

Sopal had intimated NCP chief Sharad Pawar about the decision.

Already several NCP leaders have jumped the ship and joined the Sena. Last month, in a big blow for the NCP, its city unit chief Sachin Ahir joined the Shiv Sena. Ahir, also a former minister, was the face of the NCP in Mumbai and his exit was seen as a setback for the Sharad Pawar-led party.

Adding to the mounting distress, former minister and heavyweight leader from Konkan, Bhaskar Jadhav, is also rumoured to be on his way to the Sena.
