Bollywood’s not-yet-old actress Neena Gupta, has become an inspiration for many in past one year as she has scrapped all the prejudices revolving around age-restricted roles in the cinema.
Neena, who had last year posted a picture of herself on Instagram asking for love, is now making the cinema viewers go crazy after her role in the upcoming movie Badhaai Ho. The trailer, which depicts the story of a middle aged couple with a grown up son about to become parents again, released earlier this week and has been doing rolls since then.
“I did not even read the script of the film because the subject was so interesting. Female actors of our age don’t get a chance to play such interesting characters. This phase of our life is not addressed only in our Hindi cinema. But I think the change is happening because of the youngsters who are writing such scripts,” Neena Gupta said.
“I think my post from last really worked for me. I am doing a whole lot of work. I am in the Kareena-Sonam Kapoor starrer Veere Di Wedding. I also have interesting roles in Nikhil Advani’s Mulk and Dibakar Bannerjee’s Sandeep Pinkie Farar,” added Neena.
The post by Neena Gupta was in turn shared by her daughter Masaba on her Instagram page.
As said by the actress, she always felt left out in Hindi cinema as the plum roles in all the prestigious realistic films went to Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. Neena Gupta was left with the leftovers.
At present, the film she is most looking forward to is chef-philanthropist Vikas Khanna’s ‘The Last Colour’, a film that focuses on the plight of widows in the holy city of Varanasi. The film features Neena Gupta in the pivotal role of a widow who is not allowed to play Holi, until a girl whom she had befriended and mothered in the past comes forward to fight for the widow’s right.
