The amount of the check depends on how much someone made in 2023 and what their filing status was when they filed their taxes on the IT-201 form. For example, a married couple who filed taxes together and made up to $150,000 will get $400. If they made between $150,001 and $300,000, they will get $300.
Single people who earned less than $75,000 will receive $200, and those who made more than that will get $150.
There is no extra paperwork or sign-up needed. If someone already filed their taxes, met the income rules, and wasn’t claimed as a dependent by someone else, they’ll get the check automatically.
The state will send the payments by mail in October or November 2025. People should keep in mind that the checks will not go out by region, so one person might get it earlier or later than someone in another area.

This help will go to all parts of New York. In New York City alone, over 3.5 million checks will be sent.
