In a highly controversial remark, union minister of state for human resource development, Satyapal Singh on Sunday has said that “No boy will ready to marry a girl who comes to the mandap (wedding stage) in jeans.”

Notably, the minister shared the stage with chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur.

“Similarly, no saint will be revered if he gives up his traditional attire and wears jeans,” Singh said, reported Hindustan Times. The minister made the remark while talking about the appropriateness of attire in Indian culture.

Singh was addressing a gathering of young students at the concluding ceremony of the foundation day of Maharana Pratap Siksha Parishad (MPSP). MPSP is the academic venture of Gorakhnath temple.

Singh also praised MPSP for preserving values linked with Hindu culture. The Gorakhnath temple also runs the hospital, blood banks and Ayurvedic treatment centres.
