No discharge to DG Vanzara, NK Amin in Ishrat Jahan case

The discharge pleas of Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case accused DG Vanzara and NK Amin got rejected by the Special CBI court on Tuesday. Former Gujarat DIG Vanzara and retired superintendent of police NK Amin had appealed for discharge after another accused PP Pandey was discharged in February asking for more evidence against him.

DG Vanzara who is accused of planning the encounter that was performed by a joint team of the Gujarat police is out on bail. He had requested a bail plea in court in congruence with the retired Director General of Police PP Pandey. He has also claimed that the CBI charge sheet is politically influenced.

Amin who is co-accused in the case had also appealed for discharge stating that the encounter was genuine and the evidence and witnesses that was produced by the CBI were not authentic. After Vanzara and Amin’s plea for discharge to the court, Ishrat Jahan’s mother Shamima Kauser had challenged the plea saying that Vanzara has a direct connection to the case, as he played a key role in the encounter conspiracy.

Police had claimed that the deceased were having connections with terrorists and have plans to kill then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. Later a Special Investigating Team found the encounter to be fake. After this, the case was transferred to the CBI.
