Odisha: Eight killed, two injured in a road accident

A truck collided with an auto-rickshaw in Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday. The incident killed eight people while injured two passengers. The crash happened at Chandol when the victims hailing from Machhagaon were returning after attending ceremonial ‘Snana Purnima’ ritual at Nemala.

Seven people, including a teenager, died while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital, Inspector in-charge of Jagatsinghpur police station, Rajnikant Mishra, said. The injured were at first taken to the district headquarters hospital and then shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack.

The driver of the truck escaped from the location. Efforts were on to nab him.

Residents protested on Jagatsinghpur-Machhagaon road near Chandol seeking compensation for those killed and injured in the accident.

They also demands immediate arrest of the truck driver. Officials were deployed in the area to uphold law and order and stop any infuriating incident.
